In anticipation of the film My Father and the Man in Black, a Canadian documentary filmed by Jonathan Holiff, which premiered in Victoria at the 2013 Victoria Film Festival, the festival commissioned me to curate I’ve Been Everywhere: Stories From the Road. Holiff’s documented in his film the complex relationship between his late father Saul Holiff and Johnny Cash, whom he managed for 13 years. His film used rare archival material and Cash artifacts, much of which was on display during the exhibition.
I’ve Been Everywhere: Stories From the Road also featured a number of road stories and artifacts from local musicians, including Carolyn Mark, Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter.
