45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana
Exhibition dates: September 14 to October 24, 2015
45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana was a retrospective on Victoria-born artist Anna Banana, who had spent the last 45 years involved in the Mail Art Network, an international artistic movement focused on sending art through the postal system. Throughout the years that Banana was involved in the Mail Art Network, she received hundreds of banana items, from T-shirts to inflatable, chocolates to stuffed animals.
This exhibition displayed all 1,159 items that Banana received, but allowed visitors to take home any three items as long as they filled out an archive form. With each element of the exhibition, Banana wanted visitors to intentionally interact with herself, volunteer gallery attendants, Open Space staff, and each other.
45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana was co-produced with the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria curated by Michelle Jacques, and has toured to the Pratt Institute Libraries.
